The Whisper-Seekers

I am waiting on a whisper.
I have come to a fork in the road. A “good one.” A challenging one. But today I feel tired from it. Wondering, back and forth, which way to go. Today I am sitting at the side of the road waiting on the Lord to reveal his plan. It isn’t easy to wait. The rest of the world seems to be rushing by . . . and it isn’t easy to hear the Lord when life seems to move at a whirl-wind pace. But the Lord often comes in a whisper and today I have made the decision to wait.

“And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face
and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

He replied, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty.”
1 Kings 19:12-14

Are you waiting on the Lord? There is plenty of room here at the side of the road, and I do love company. There are very few of us I think.
The waiters.
The listeners.
The whisper-seekers.
So let’s wait together, shall we? Humbled down here, amidst the dust.

Your voice will come ghostlike from the earth;
out of the dust your speech will whisper.
Isaiah 29:4
And when His voice arises soft from the earth, may we proceed in the direction he would send us. And may it be said we “have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty.”

  1. I’m with you, waiting on a whisper.

I believe He loves for us to wait, and tune in, and quiet all else so we can hear Him. So much more intimate than shouting.

  2. Hello! I’ve been reading your blog for a bit now, I stumbled across it through another blog. I’ve so loved reading about your new experience as a mommy, the journey to building your new-old house (which I’ve always wanted to do!), and your relationship with Jesus and love for your family. I am pregnant, and too have had complications along with a loss last July, and my husband and I are SO excited to meet our baby girl in August, as she has been prayed for and wanted for quite some time now! But I just wanted you to know that I’ve been encouraged by your words, and the way that you recognize the Rare & Beautiful Treasures in your life. It’s made me slow down a bit more and look for the Rare & Beautiful Treasures in my own life. Wishing many blessings to you and yours. (Hope you don’t mind, but I’m adding you to the blogs I read on my own, so I can just jump right from mine to yours to read your updates!) πŸ™‚

  3. I’m a waiter with you! We wouldn’t want our blessings to be half baked and get them before God has them fully prepared for us! He sees our process from end to beginning and His view is a unique one that we do not share. You and I will just continue to be zealous together-helping each other! Thank you Lord for giving us the blessing of others to encourage us and to wait along with!

  4. Definitely waiting on the side of that same road… It’s a bittersweet, but precious place to be, and certainly better when you’re not alone. I have a sharp set of ears if you need to share, and prayers for you no matter what! XO

  5. Thanks for sharing Erin. I think we all need a gentle reminder sometimes to just stop and listen. Have wonderful 1st Mother’s Day!

  6. I have so enjoyed your Beautiful blog since finding it a couple of weeks ago.
I too wait for the “whisper” daily.
“be still & know that I am God” is something I repeat daily.
My prayers are with you family also today.
    Diana

  7. …let us be silent that we may hear the whispers of god….emerson…
    …to just be still….
i’m waiting right along with you, extremely difficult especially for a girl that has no patience ;0)
*thank you* so much for sharing those verses…they were needed here on the prairie today…

    blessings,
    kristin

    btw~Happy Mothers Day!!

  8. Thanks, I needed this. Waiting on a whisper from Him that all is right with our baby and my body and that even though I am due today with no signs of progress, that the baby will come out when it is His time and be a healthy delivery for both of us. I’m going to rest all weekend and pray for Him to whisper to me that patience and rest (neither of which are my strong suits) are the best things I can do for our little Puddin.

  9. I LOVE song that is off of the movie ‘Fireproof’

While I’m Waiting by John Waller

I’m sure you’ve heard it but for some reason listening to praise and worship music sure calms my crazy mind and anxious heart. I’m able to just close my mind, raise my hands and get a huge hug from my Heavenly Father – I’m able to meditate and listen for him this way. I’m proud of you girlly for waiting and listening.

It isn’t an easy task to tackle.

Happy Weekend, The Lady of the House

  10. It’s so hard sometimes in the busyness of our lives to just listen and wait patiently. There is a lot of noise in this world and sometimes it’s so tempting to just make decisions without consulting God.

I too am waiting on a couple things. Some days it feels like the whisper will never come. Then I have to remind myself all of the times I’ve prayed for something day, after day and even though it often came months or years later-I did eventually see my prayer request come to pass or finally hear His voice. He was listening all along to every prayer but chooses to respond in His timing.

    Happy 1st Mother’s Day Erin! πŸ™‚

  11. O Erin, this is one of the most beautiful things I have ever read.

    “The waiters.

    The listeners.

    The whisper seekers.”

yes, dear sister, I will wait with you here by the side of the road. So beautiful. Forever now when I get to a place to wait on the Lord, I will remember you and these words.

    Thank you forever.

  12. I found this post in the link from today’s post about the beach cottage. I’m in a season of waiting and listening for God’s whisper – and I’m at a point where I’m not really sure what it is I’m waiting for. The image of God’s whisper is so important for me… it’s the name of my blog πŸ˜€ and it was… encouraging… to be reminded of it’s meaning in this post.
