I have very few good pictures of Wynn and I together. I am sure that all the mamas reading this can relate. I have LOTS of great pictures of Wynn with his daddy. I have lots of great pictures of Wynn on his own. {I am the one after all who invested lots of time in learning to shoot my dslr camera and I am the one who takes the camera along on walks around the neighborhood and day trips and vacations.} My husband doesn’t know how to use the camera, except to shoot in auto (blah), and if you look back over the pictures we have from the past year, you would hardly know that I was there-hilarious considering that Wynn is never more than 2 feet from my side!
Months ago I read this idea on Pinterest about using a tripod to take self-portraits with your children. Yesterday I finally pulled out my camera and tripod and captured the picture above. I am hooked! I shot the picture on manual, using a 50mm lens, adjusting for exposure before setting the camera timer. The light must have shifted some in the 10 seconds between setting the timer and the shutter clicking because the straight out of the camera shot was pretty underexposed. I was able to correct for exposure using curves in Photoshop.
If you are a mommy in a similar position, I strongly recommend a tripod and the timer function on your camera! Tripods can be picked up relatively inexpensively. It is worth the effort to be able to look back and see that, yes, you were there.
And life was beautiful.

Oh my goodness, Erin! That picture is absolutely stunning! Definitely something you should do more often 🙂
This is so stunning! Wynn is incredibly intense. What a powerful photo and great reminder to not hide behind the camera all the time.
Beautiful!
This is GREAT!! I have a nice dslr, but have not even opened the manual (says mom 2 years later) but have been more interested in just how it works! Maybe this is just the picture I needed to get my rear in gear!!
It is a lovely picture, Erin. Thank you for sharing it with us.
God bless you and your little Wynn.
Stunning! It looks like a professional studio portrait. Yeah for you!
What a beautiful picture! And yes, moms are usually the ones capturing them. Great idea!
What a great idea! This pic is priceless! Thanks for sharing.
Oh you too are just precious! Miss you and hope you are enjoying your Michigan winter!
Beautiful!
LOVE the idea! I didn’t understand much of the camera lingo, but I’ll have to learn and get my Canon Rebel off of auto function. It’s a great camera for a beginner, but it’s still overwhelming!
oops, forgot to state what a stunning photo this is! What a moment to capture!
Of course I can relate!!! We went to disney recently – 1000 pics of the trip – only 2, yes TWO!!!! of me with my boy!!!!! I like your idea and I loooooooooove the pic you took – great job!!!
Beautiful photo. Mothers need to make it a priorty to have pictures of themselves with their children. 🙂

Dear Erin,
How beautiful!
I started following you before you were blessed with that beautiful baby boy!
I just wanted to congratulate you on “1000” followers.
I’m looking forward to seeing more pictures of your new home.
Enjoy your day! 🙂
Miracles always happen on HIS time – congratulations, how blessed you are. Can’t wait to meet him/her in September, the best month to be born IMHO since I was. 🙂
