Fall Nesting

What is it about fall that makes for such a wonderful season?

Cool air and short days that make you feel more able to curl up indoors with a great book?

The smell of freshly fallen leaves, the inside of a pumpkin set for carving, or a pumpkin spice latte or hot apple cider?

The taste of apple cider doughnuts? Apple pie? Pumpkin pie? Delicious fall confections?

Flannel quilts and a wood burning fireplace?

Yes, yes, yes, and yes. To all of the above.

This weekend we had our first cool temperatures, I had my first apple cider doughnut (heaven!!), and I took at least two naps under a homemade flannel quilt. Please don’t judge, I am napping for two. πŸ™‚

Aren’t you so glad that fall is here? Or right around the corner?

I have unique memories of childhood falls in Michigan, where I took countless walks with my dad through our woods and had the rare opportunity to enjoy the smell of fall leaves with the sound of Lake Michigan crashing on the beach below.

If you missed the post last fall, this soup is just incredible and remains my fall favorite. Well, unless you count apple cider doughnuts. Have I mentioned those already???

Stay tuned for a post on my new obsession-easy peasey homemade applesauce, as well as a list of great fall reads.

Welcome, Fall!

We missed you dear friend.

  1. The weather today is horrifying…and I LOVE it!!! I’m making squash/potato/carrot soup (a hybrid of a couple of recipes I love). Bring on the spice candles, tea, and pumpkins!!

I spent the afternoon with my mom last week and we walked the trail at Magoon Creek. WHY DIDN’T I EVER REALIZE HOW AWESOME IT WAS WHEN WE WERE LITTLE?????

  2. As usual, great post πŸ™‚ I was thinking of you over the weekend as I bought Madeline her Thanksgiving dress at Janie and Jack. I started my own blog, The Mommy Chronicles….it is on blogspot, you will have to check it out when you have free time. It is a work in progress and any suggestions are welcome πŸ™‚

  4. Fall is my favorite season. We spent the afternoon outside playing in the breeze and it was awesome. Now I can’t wait for it to get a tad bit more chilly so I can get that pumpkin spice latte Starbucks has had in forever. But that doesn’t taste as good when its 90 outside. ;D

  5. Hello Erin – yes, I am ever so happy that Fall is here. Living in SoCal it’s difficult to notice the changes in season as it feels like summertime year-round. So for me, it’s the little things I enjoy this time of year – decorating my hutch with pumpkins and Fall leaves, apple pie, lighting my Fall scented candles.

    Blessings,
    Marie
