The Kitchen!

The kitchen is probably my favorite room in the new house. I spent so much time designing every detail of this room with my fantastic friend Abby (thanks, A!!!) I wanted a room that was large and warm and bright and where I could envision spending hours cooking, baking, and canning. Okay, so I don’t can. But I plan on learning. πŸ™‚ And I do make jam. Does that count?

All cabinetry by Kraftmaid; wall color is River Rapids by Ralph Lauren Paint.

An older shot, before the range hood was installed, shows the cool contrasts in the wood floor

This farmhouse sink is a $1200 Kohler sink that I scored on ebay (after months of scouring) for only $200-brand new in the box.

Any suggestions for window treatments in this spot? We have plantation shutters in the rest of the house, but I hate to cover these windows up to that extent because they let in so much wonderful natural light. Thoughts??

  1. I love your kitchen it is so well done , I have those Martha stools , the window and bench are great , I would love to see roman blinds in a soft stripe or a match stick blind that matches your floors , they can be opened right up out of the way during the day to see those beautiful windows.

  2. I just LOVE your kitchen Erin–it is SO BEAUTIFUL! Everything looks just perfect–down to the last detail. It was so much fun seeing it all come together!

  3. love the kitchen, Erin! great job. i like the cat on the island πŸ™‚ and great buy on your sink!

  4. Erin your kitchen is so pretty. lucky you! And all your food looks good too! mmm. If you want window treatments maybe a roman shade or long side pannels? And one nurotic question cause it’s what i do for a living…why doesn’t your fridge open the other way? you should have your man switch that. πŸ™‚

  5. I hate to admit it, but i’ve got real kitchen envy πŸ™‚
As for the windows, they’re just so beautiful I can see why you don’t want to cover them too much, my suggestion would be roman blinds too…

  6. hi erin! i was just turned on to your website by a friend…your kitchen=gorgeous!! we are about to move into a home i LOVE as well…the kitchen is very similar…we are getting new wood floors and are deciding on a stain for them. i LOVE the colors of your floors…we want that dark’ish look…what kind of wood are they and what color stain did you use? we have oak floors and it seems the color we want is from cherry floors or some other “species”…just curious! thank you SO much, LOVE your blog!!

  7. Hey Sean! Thanks so much for the comment. Our floors are Brazillian Walnut and they came pre-stained. They have a very cool variation of dark and light, which I love. We bought through Lumber Liquidators, I highly recommend checking them out, we found the best deal through them by far. I also looked at oak, I think Bruce has a good online site where you can see different stains on oak. Check that out too.

  8. WOW! Stunning! I came here after seeing your beautiful master bedroom pictures posted at The Lettered Cottage blog. I had to know where to find those amazing hardwood floors! πŸ™‚ Thanks for the tips about Lumber Liquidators and Brazilian Walnut. However, do you remember which specific flooring you purchased? Here are the Lumber Liquidator choices:
