Colors of the Sea

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know I love casual coastal style. I was incredibly blessed to grow up on the beach and now that I live inland, I often miss the water desperately. And while I’m not a fan of “themes” in decorating, I do incorporate coastal colors often. I am just naturally drawn to them. I have mason jars and glass bowls of sea glass around my house. Sea glass holds a special place in my heart and my walk of faith. I just never seem to get tired of soft blues and greens, creams and cool whites.

The colors of sea glass look wonderful against a white wall with lots of natural light.

I love the pale blue walls in our kitchen. The color is River Rapids by Ralph Lauren at Home Depot. There is something cool and soothing about a wall that is barely-blue.

A similar color looks great on these painted floors.

Gorgeous turquoise. Who wouldn’t love an outside shower? As a little girl, we used to come home from the beach to be sprayed down by a very cold garden hose!

Pretty accent pillows show how you can incorporate coastal colors into your summer decorating without redoing your room.
Corresponding cushions in a variety of complimentary coastal colors. I love the bead board ceiling and industrial fan in this room.

  1. We have turquoise accent pillows, and throws. I also have milk glass with candles lit in them for a warm white glow and lots of natural light.

And a kiddie pool. Let’s all put our feet in and pretend we’re at the beach!

  2. Oh Erin, those are the prettiest pictures. I am redoing my entire home office in soft gray/spa blue and cream. LOVE those colors. I’ve used them in ALL my bathrooms. I never get tired of spa blue. Never !

  3. I live on the Texas coast, so we incorporate it into our home as well. Kind of a western coastal look…I am big on slipcovered furniture- a must with four kids and a weinie dog. I also love sisal rugs and anything with a natural texture.

    I love your blog!

  4. Benjamin Moore’s Aura line (the most amazing paint ever) has a color called Atmospheric – a beautiful gray-blue-green that makes me feel like I’m always on vacation. My husband picked it for our living room and did he ever pick well!!! The couch and armoire are cream-colored, and the accents splashed around the room are green. I prayed for God to help me decorate my house and make it a respite for the weary. I knew He did just that when my friend sat on my couch one day and sighed, “Just being here makes me feel so refreshed.”

  5. I love these colors. Beach glass is one of my favorites too. There is a beach called Glass Beach that we used to visit every summer, I miss that place.

  6. I love the white on white look. These pictures are beautiful! I always think a touch of pink, be that with flowers or a pink cushion can just lift it. You have good taste. The pictures make me long for a well earned holiday.
    Best wishes.

  7. I am all about that color scheme. I never tire of it. It’s so serene! My home is full of blues and greens – the colors are surprisingly versatile and very soothing. Thanks for sharing the beautiful pics!

  8. For me it’s reverse. I grew up landlocked (in Switzerland) and now live by the sea. I love sea glass, it’s the ultimate when it comes to color. There is not much to be found of it though where I live.

  9. I grew up in Rhode Island and now live in San Diego so while I still live on a coast – west coast style is very different from east coast style and so I actually had a few rhode island accents in my guest bedroom at my old house – a throw and an accent pillow. We are in the process of redoing our bathroom and I am using the very New England blue with white accents

  10. Hi there! Do you have any idea what the sign on the kitchen coutertop says in the 5th picture? Just wondering? THANKS!
